SEED CYCLING FOR MENSTRUAL IRREGULARITIES, PCOD/PCOS & Pre Menstrual Syndrome,Infertility,

A lot of patients have been asking us , what is SEED CYCLING & how useful is it for PCOD/ PCOS , PMS , infertility, acne etc.

Well ,as per ayurveda, naturopathy and those who have been using food as medicines SEED CYCLING has been found useful in certain menstrual issues in a number of women.

However its NOT a CURE to pcod/ pcos as these are medical issues and require more measures like exercise, stress management & medicines .

Kitchen remedies do work well for some people and I personally see no harm in trying them for few cycles and finding out oneself.

As the name suggests seed cycling means having certain seeds during the month , in a cyclical pattern.

The menstrual cycle is divided into two parts, the 1st phase called Follicular Phase which is around 1 to 14 th day of cycle, counting from 1st day of periods .

Second part is Luteal Phase which is around 14th to 28th day or till your menses starts .

During the first 14 days consume – Flax seeds ( Alsi/ jawas ) + Pumpkin seeds

During the 2nd phase of 14th to 28/ when menses starts  consume- Black sesame & Sun flower seeds .

HOW MUCH TO EAT?

I suggest one teaspoon/ 5 grams of EACH to begin with. Some resources say that 1 table spoon of each should be taken , but its too much to begin and we need to see how if it suits ones gut ( digestes well ) or not.

HOW TO TAKE?

Pumpkin &  Sunflower can be taken as it is.

Flax & Sesame need very light roasting , some people are comfortable eating it as it is.

If you choose to roast it . do it very mildly on a iron tawa on low flame , for 2 mins only.

CHEW THEM PROPERLY .

WHAT DOES IT DO EXACTLY?

Phytoestrogen in Flax &  Pumpkin seed, will help reduce excess estrogen in body and balances it help follicle mature  timely.

In second phase  when we have Sunflower & Sesame seeds , they help in balancing progesterone.

ANY ADDITIONAL BENEFITS ?

Besides this, they provide Omega 3 ,  many minerals & fibre for good fertility, acne  & digestion.

DOES IT HELP WITH WEIGHT LOSS?

Not directly, but if you have regular menses , and your calories consumption is under control, you may be able to NOT GAIN FURTHER.

WHAT IF I DON’T SEE ANY CHANGES WITH ABOVE OR EXPERIENCE ANY SYMPTOMS / DIGESTIVE ISSUES?

Talk to an expert / discuss with your doctor. If you are unable digest it, you may reduce the quantity or even stop having the seeds.

BESIDES THIS THE USUAL TREATMENT OF MENSTRUAL ISSUES – like homeopathy, exercise , low carb diet & lifestyle balancing is a must , depending on the severity of each case.
